The Publications division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is pleased to announce the signing of a new transformative ‘read and publish’ agreement with the Library Division of the Universidad del Valle.

Deseamos informar que, en el mes de diciembre de 2023, la División de Bibliotecas de la Universidad del Valle, ha establecido y firmado un Acuerdo Transformativo (AT) con la casa editorial ACS (American Chemical Society), para promover la difusión gratuita y sin restricciones de la investigación académica y científica realizada por la universidad. El AT permite que, bajo la misma suscripción existente de la base de datos y revistas de la ACS, se habilite la opción para nuestros investigadores de publicar en acceso abierto (open access) los trabajos de investigación sin costo adicional.
Los acuerdos transformativos (AT) representan una forma de negociación entre las bibliotecas, consorcios nacionales y regionales, con diferentes casas editoriales. Su objetivo principal es lograr una transformación del actual modelo de publicación en revistas académicas, que se basa en suscripciones, hacia un enfoque centrado en el acceso abierto.
Mediante este acuerdo, todos los artículos de investigación publicados por autores e investigadores afiliados a la Universidad del Valle y que sean aceptados en las revistas de ACS no tendrán costo de publicación para la universidad y estarán disponibles de manera gratuita y abierta para el público de internet. Esto permitirá a las personas ubicadas en cualquier lugar del mundo acceder a la investigación generada por la comunidad académica de la universidad sin barreras económicas o técnicas.
El Acceso Abierto de los artículos realizados por nuestros investigadores en las publicaciones de ACS, contribuirá a lograr un mayor impacto y visibilidad de la Universidad del Valle, así como mostrar la labor realizada por nuestros autores y comunidad académica; además de generar una mayor difusión de los descubrimientos y resultados de investigaciones.
La firma de este acuerdo entre la Universidad del Valle y ACS es la continuidad de una relación durante muchos años, además de permitir expresar la responsabilidad de ambas instituciones con los principios de equidad y transparencia en el acceso a la información científica.

The Universidad del Valle and ACS announce a new read and publish agreement
The Publications division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is pleased to announce the signing of a new transformative ‘read and publish’ agreement with the Library Division of the Universidad del Valle, to promote the free and unrestricted dissemination restrictions on academic and scientific research carried out by the university. The AT allows, under the existing subscription to the ACS database and journals, the option for affiliated researchers to publish open access in ACS journals at no additional cost.
Transformative agreements are negotiated between libraries, national and/or regional consortia, with different publishing houses. The main objective of these agreements is to achieve a transformation of the current publication model in academic journals, which is based on subscriptions, towards an approach focused on open access.
Through this agreement, all research articles published by authors and researchers affiliated with the Universidad del Valle and accepted in ACS journals will have no publication cost for the university and will be freely available to read and download online. This will allow people located anywhere in the world to access the research generated by the university’s academic community without economic or technical barriers.
Open access to articles written by UdV’s researchers in ACS publications will contribute to achieving greater impact and visibility of the Universidad del Valle, as well as showing the work carried out by the institution’s authors and academic community. The agreement will also allow greater dissemination of discoveries and research results.
The signing of this agreement between the Universidad del Valle and ACS is a continuation of a long-standing relationship, in addition to allowing the expression of the responsibility of both UdV and ACS with the principles of equity and transparency in access to scientific information.
