ACS is pleased to announce that the Universidad de los Andes Library System (UNIANDES) has established the first ACS read and publish agreement in Colombia, to promote the free and unrestricted dissemination of academic and scientific research generated by affiliated researchers.
UNIANDES logra el primer acuerdo transformativo en Colombia con American Chemical Society (ACS)
Nos complace anunciar que el Sistema de Bibliotecas de la Universidad de los Andes logró establecer el primer Acuerdo Transformativo en Colombia con la casa editorial ACS (American Chemical Society), para promover la difusión gratuita y sin restricciones de la investigación académica y científica que se genera en la universidad. Este acuerdo permite que bajo el mismo contrato existente de suscripción de bases de datos y revistas, se habilite la opción para la comunidad uniandina de publicar en acceso abierto (open access) los trabajos de investigación sin costo adicional.
Los acuerdos transformativos representan una forma de negociación entre bibliotecas, consorcios nacionales y regionales, así como a casas editoriales. Su objetivo principal es lograr una transformación del actual modelo de publicación en revistas académicas, que se basa en suscripciones, hacia un enfoque centrado en el acceso abierto.
Mediante este acuerdo, todos los artículos de investigación publicados por investigadores afiliados a la UNIANDES y que sean aceptados en las revistas de ACS no tendrán costo de publicación para la universidad y estarán disponibles de manera gratuita y abierta para el público de internet. Esto significa que cualquier persona en Colombia y desde cualquier lugar del mundo podrá acceder a la producción intelectual generada por la comunidad académica de la Universidad de Los Andes sin barreras económicas o técnicas.
El compromiso con el Acceso Abierto fortalece el avance del conocimiento al permitir una mayor difusión de los descubrimientos y resultados de investigaciones, lo que contribuirá a un mayor impacto y visibilidad de la labor realizada por nuestros investigadores y comunidad académica. Además, fomentará la colaboración y el intercambio de ideas en la comunidad científica a nivel global.
Estos acuerdos también reflejan el compromiso de ambas instituciones con los principios de transparencia y equidad en el acceso a la información científica. Al facilitar la disponibilidad gratuita de los artículos de investigación, buscamos promover un sistema más inclusivo y colaborativo en la esfera académica.
UNIANDES y ACS creen firmemente en el poder del conocimiento compartido para abordar los desafíos globales y mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas. Estos acuerdos de Acceso Abierto son un paso importante en esa dirección, y esperamos que inspiren a otras instituciones a seguir el mismo camino.

ACS is pleased to announce that the Universidad de los Andes Library System (UNIANDES) has established the first ACS read and publish agreement in Colombia, to promote the free and unrestricted dissemination of academic and scientific research generated by affiliated researchers. This agreement continues the same subscription access enjoyed by the UNIANDES research community, and allows authors to publish their research as open access at no additional cost.
Transformative read and publish agreements represent a form of negotiation between libraries, national and regional consortia, as well as publishing houses. The main objective of these agreements is to achieve a transformation of subscription access to journals towards a fully open access approach.
Through this agreement, all research articles published by researchers affiliated with Universidad de Los Andes that are accepted in ACS journals may be published as open access under a CC BY license with no further cost to the author or university, and will be freely and openly available to the general public: readers in Colombia and from anywhere in the world will be able to access research generated by the academic community of the Universidad de Los Andes without restriction.
The commitment to open access strengthens the advancement of knowledge by allowing a greater dissemination of discoveries and research results, which will contribute to a greater impact and visibility of the work carried out by the research community of UNIANDES. The agreement will also foster collaboration and the exchange of ideas in the scientific community at a global level.
Read and publish agreements also reflect the commitment of both research institutions and publishers to the principles of transparency and equity in access to scientific information. By facilitating the free availability of research articles, UNIANDES and ACS seek to promote a more inclusive and collaborative system.
