ACS announces major new read and publish agreement with Germany's FAK Consortium

Published January 11, 2024

The Publications division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is proud to announce a new read and publish agreement with Germany’s Friedrich-Althoff Konsortium (FAK), covering thousands of chemistry researchers across 23 institutions.

The new agreement, which runs from January 2024 through December 2026, includes full reading access to all ACS journals as well as unlimited open access publishing support with a CC BY license in more than 80 fully open access and hybrid journals.

“We are delighted that the Germany-wide transformation process is driven forward in cooperation with the ACS and that the Friedrich-Althoff-Konsortium (FAK) can also offer its participating institutions a read and publish agreement that will further promote the visibility of German scientific achievements,“ says Katja Braschoss, board member of the FAK and Head of Acquisitions at TU Berlin.

“We’re excited to be working with FAK to provide their researchers with full access to ACS’ portfolio of essential chemistry journals, and to offer unlimited open access publishing as part of this agreement”, added Sybille Geisenheyner, Director of Open Science Strategy and Licensing for ACS Publications. “Open access has become an essential aspect of many researchers’ publication processes, and ACS strives to make the experience as straightforward as possible. Agreements such as this streamline the author experience and ensure institutions get a clear view of their researchers’ publishing activities.”

More information for researchers based at FAK member institutions can be found on the ACS Open Science website.

About ACS
The American Chemical Society (ACS) is a nonprofit organization chartered by the U.S. Congress. ACS’ mission is to advance the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and all its people. The Society is a global leader in promoting excellence in science education and providing access to chemistry-related information and research through its multiple research solutions, peer-reviewed journals, scientific conferences, eBooks and weekly news periodical Chemical & Engineering News. ACS journals are among the most cited, most trusted and most read within the scientific literature; however, ACS itself does not conduct chemical research. As a leader in scientific information solutions, its CAS division partners with global innovators to accelerate breakthroughs by curating, connecting and analyzing the world’s scientific knowledge. ACS’ main offices are in Washington, D.C., and Columbus, Ohio.
